Extremely high or low temperatures do not kill virus but the flu virus is deactivated at temperatures ranging from 165 to 212 degrees. This is the boiling point of water. Viruses lack most of the basic structures and functions as well for them to be defined as living organisms.

Viruses can withstand freezing temperatures which is why it survives longer under colder conditions.

Freezing temperatures are great for storing viruses and are used by the CDC to store some viruses.

The flu virus survives longer at low humidity and lower temperatures. When the temperature is at 43 degrees Fahrenheit and there is very low humidity, the virus can survive for more than 23 hours. When temperatures increase to about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, survival of the virus diminishes.
