October 2018: Whitefish Breast Cancer Awareness Month

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

Breast cancer awareness month is a yearly campaign that intend educate people about the importance of early screening, test and more. This campaign starts on October 1st and ends on October 31st every year.

Breast Cancer Statistics

About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2015, an estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 60,290 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. The police department has changed the color of its badge to pink as a way to honor those who have and are battling this disease.

October is breast cancer awareness month and according to the national breast cancer foundation, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
